11-year-old Diana had been sleeping in her mom’s bed because she was too afraid to sleep in her own room by herself.

She wanted to conquer this fear so that she could have friends over for a sleepover.

WISDOM Coach Lisa worked with Diana to help her learn how to understand her fear and to create courage by intentionally stretching outside her comfort zone to conquer her fear – one step at a time.

After working through the skill books on building confidence and the 5 Steps for Managing Fear, Diana and Coach Lisa developed a plan – that worked!

Diana was so excited that she told all the kids in her class, “You have to go to Miss O’Loughlin. She can help you conquer anything.”

Watch WISDOM Coach Lisa talk about Diana’s story and some of the steps Diana took in this video here:

The Steps Diana Took to Build Confidence

After learning about what self-confidence is and how it’s a skill that can be developed, Diana worked with WISDOM Coach Lisa to determine the steps she could take to get out of her mom’s bed.

  1. She started on the floor next to her mom, on a mattress.
  2. Then she slept in the hallway with the door open for a few nights.
  3. Then she went into her room, and her mom slept on a mattress on the floor in Diana’s bedroom.
  4. And then Diana had a friend come over for a sleepover, so she was in her room, but not alone.
  5. And finally, she slept in her room by herself.

These “baby steps” helped Diana build her confidence and courage.  She was so proud!

School Counselors and WISDOM Coaches are Teaming up to Support Kids

At a time when kids need more support than ever, and access to mental health services is more scarce than ever*, parents are turning to school counselors for help.

This means school counselors are working even longer hours, and it’s simply not possible to get to every child.

Now, school counselors are teaming up with certified WISDOM Coaches – or getting certified themselves – to access a story-based curriculum specifically designed to help kids develop mindset skills; which is easing the burden on counselors, while helping kids and families.
