“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
Why Life Coaching for Children is So Important
When faced with challenges and disappointments, most children don’t have the tools to handle them. As a result, kids can get down on themselves which crushes self-esteem, and they can give up on themselves which crushes self-confidence.
This doesn’t have to happen!
Child life coaching supports kids in developing powerful mindset skills for helping them manage the ups and downs of growing up, for becoming self-leaders, for living life with direction and achieving goals, and for creating happiness in their lives.
Life coaching for children is the missing link in children’s education.
If you think about it, our children spend thousands of hours learning their ABCs and 123s, but most never learn the one thing that has the greatest impact on their lives – their mindset. It’s how they choose to think.
And mindset shapes everything:
• our confidence and belief in ourselves,
• our self-esteem and overall sense of wellbeing,
• what we believe is possible for our lives,
• what we achieve, and
• our happiness
Through child life coach training you learn how to help children identify and shift limiting beliefs that hold them back in life and how to proactively create supporting beliefs to belief in themselves, own who they are, and go for it in life.
“…so valuable because kids aren’t learning this [mindset skills] in school!”
“I don’t say this very often, but I highly recommend what you’re doing. It is so valuable, and it’s so complete. That’s what I love about it and, obviously, really effective.”
Life coaching for children is transforming the lives of children and families around the world. If you’re passionate about personal development and mindset training; passionate about empowering children; and believe that empowering children will help you do your work in the world, becoming a certified WISDOM Coach enables you to become part of this powerful movement that is empowering children to reach their fullest potential and be who they were meant to be in this world!
How Child Life Coaching Helps Children?
“No matter how much we love our children or how much time we spend with them, we can’t give them self-esteem, we can’t give them self-confidence, and we can’t give them success in life, but what we can do is help them to develop it in themselves. And that’s what mindset training and life coaching for kids is all about!”
Imagine the Type of Person these Children can Become…
Children’s coaches support children with:
Developing strong self-esteem
The key to strong self-esteem is mindset – it’s how we think about ourselves.
Low self-esteem is caused by errors in thinking – when we start to believe that things outside of ourselves determine how we feel about ourselves. Kids learn how to develop self-esteem from the inside out, so that they can learn how to feel great about themselves no matter who they are with or what situation they’re in.
Coaches work with children to understand the traps the crush self-esteem and how to beat those traps by learning how to honor their uniqueness, develop the skill of positive self-talk, learn how to separate events from who they are, choose how to think about events using their Power Goggles®, and so much more.
Building self-confidence
Self-confidence is a skill. And it takes practice.
Children learn brain science behind confidence and how to intentionally stretch outside of their comfort zone, in order to build their confidence brain patterns.
Under their coaches’ guidance, many children have transformed from sitting on the sidelines of life to becoming more confident in school and social situations. And going for their goals!
A 10-year-old boy’s low self-esteem and confidence was crippling him. He worked with WISDOM Coach® Rowan. She helped him rebuild his confidence by practicing stretching outside of his comfort zone. And she helped him build belief systems that supported his goals. Within just a few short months, Tyler’s confidence and self-esteem were rebuilt and he was thriving at school and with friends.
Managing stress, worry, or anxiety
Life Coaching for Children is a critical part of the mental health continuum that many people are not aware of – supporting children in developing resilience and coping skills to manage the ups and downs of growing up.
Stress is commonly experienced by many children in our modern society. The statistics are staggering. Did you know that before the pandemic:
- 30% of tweens (children between the ages 10-12) experience headaches and difficulty sleeping as a result of stress (1)
- 25% of children between ages 13 and 18 experience anxiety disorders (2)
- Depression was “the predominant cause of illness and disability” for children and teens age 10 to 19-years-old, worldwide (3)
The pandemic intensified this crisis. In a joint statement on 10/19/21, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) declared that children’s mental health is a national crisis because of the pandemic. Across the United States we have witnessed dramatic increases in Emergency Department visits for all mental health emergencies including suspected suicide attempts. (4)
The statistics – sourced from the Center of Disease Control, Department of Health and Human Services, Children’s Hospital Association, and Mental Health America – are alarming and include that self-injury and suicide in kids 5-17 years old increased 45% in the first half of 2021, and that 17% of youth 12-17 years old report suffering one major depressive episode in the past year (2022).
US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy said at the American Psychology Association’s APA 2022 conference, during the segment entitled, “The Kids are not Alright – the Decline of Mental Health Among Youth”, that many people think that the pandemic caused the crisis in youth mental health. But he says that three statistics “haunt” him, and they are all pre-pandemic: “11 is the number of years on average it takes a child when they experience symptoms, to when they can actually get treatment and care… 57 – that’s the percentage increase we saw in the suicide rate in the decade prior to the pandemic… 36 – that is the percentage of high school students before the pandemic who said they felt persistently sad and hopeless. That number by the way now is 44%.”
Dr. Murthy also shared that parents across the country have told him that they can’t get appointments with mental health providers, or when they can, “the appointments are 6,7,8 months away”.
Coaches learn how to help children with:
- Managing change
- Overcoming disappointments and “failure”
- Moving past mistakes
- Moving through fear
- And so much more
Becoming self-leaders and managing peer pressure
The time for children to decide what they want for themselves is before they are in a peer pressure situation.
Children sometimes struggle in social situations, especially those involving negative peer pressure. It is critical that we support children in learning how to make good decisions about who they want to be and what they want for their lives long before they are in the tough peer pressure situations, often experienced in middle school and high school.
We need to give them the tools to not only learn how to make good decisions but also learn how to say no to their peers so that they can say yes to themselves.
Child life coaches support children in:
- Developing strong values of self-leaders so that their “inner compass” guides them in their lives. Children learn how to choose integrity, self-responsibility, and to treat themselves and other with respect.
- Learning a framework for making good decisions and thinking through tough situations that they might face in the future and deciding what they want for themselves.
- Learning about 5 different types of peer pressure and specific skills for saying “no” to their peers.
Developing skills for personal growth and achievement
Understanding the brain science of achievement supports children in achieving their goals!
Children often have big dreams. The challenge is seeing a path for making them happen.
As part of children’s personal growth it is critical that we support them and learning how their mind works to achieve their goals.
Child life coaching helps kids learn how to set a vision for their lives so that they live life with intention versus drifting through life without direction. Children learn about goal setting and how to use the Law of Attraction tools of visualization, affirmations, and gratitude to manifest their dreams.

Who is Child Life Coach Certification For?
Child life coach training is ideal for people who want to empower children – helping to develop the “whole child” so that they can be who they were meant to be in the world.
Our certified WISDOM Coaches come from all walks of life, but they tend to have three things in common:
• They are very passionate about children and their wellbeing
• They are passionate about personal development and mindset work and want to bring these powerful skills to children. They often ask, “Why didn’t I learn this as a child?”
• They feel that working with children helps them fulfill their purpose
WISDOM Coaches are:
Life Coaches
Life coaches for adults who want to help children develop the mindset skills at a young age so that they have the skills they need to navigate the ups and downs of growing up. There’s a great Frederick Douglass quote that says, “it’s easier to build a strong child than to repair broken men.”
Limiting beliefs that hold us back in life are often formed during childhood.
As a child life coach, you support children in identifying and shifting limiting beliefs and proactively creating supporting beliefs that help them soar.
Mindset training is the key!
Why Life Coach, Limor, became a Life Coach for Kids
Limor had been a life coach for adults for a decade, and was in training to become a Tony Robbins coach, when she realized that she had a strong pull to work with children.
In this video, she shares how adding child life coaching to her practice, has lead to “success after success after success” and her whole business has changed “energetically, financially, and successfully”..
Why Life Coach, Jean, became a Life Coach for Kids
Jean was a life coach and career coach for adults, but had a pull to work with children, especially children with ADHD.
In this video, she shares why she chose to get certified as a life coach for kids and add child life coaching to her life coaching practice.
Educators
Educators who want to develop the “whole child” by developing growth mindset skills and social and emotional learning. By adding child life coach training to their skill set, educators can help kids be successful in all areas of their lives, within and beyond the classroom.
Many of our educators coach children as a side business. Some bring our curriculum into their classroom. And others have chosen child life coaching as a new career!
We’ve also had educators join us as they prepare for retirement so that they can have a business that lets them continue working with children while earning income for themselves and their families.
Helped me fulfill my purpose of helping kids after I retired from teaching
“The Adventures in Wisdom program has provided me with the ability to live my passion of helping children and live my dream after retiring as a teacher…AIW has also connected me to a global community of like minded people / coaches changing our world one child at a time.
Adventures in Wisdom is an exceptional in-depth life coaching program, complete with proactive skills that come to life through stories and activities; empowering kids from their early years into their teens. And it empowers its coaches with continued support, training, and a community that expresses a global goal to ensure the children of the world are empowered personally and globally!
Once you start going through the AIW program, you immediately realize how life changing it is; not only for the children you will coach, but on a personal level.”
Why Educator, Tara, became a Life Coach for Kids
Tara had worked with kids for 10 years when she began her own personal development journey. When she discovered mindset skills she thought, “Why didn’t I learn this when I was a kid?” And she felt an urgent calling to share this important information with kids.
In this video, she shares one of the mindset skills that really drove her – that your mistakes aren’t who you are, and you don’t have to carry your mistakes with you.
Counselors and Therapists
Counselors and therapists who know that mental health is a spectrum and want to support children in developing mindset skills for mental fitness. They want to help kids develop the resilience and coping skills needed to navigate mistakes, disappointments and manage change. And they want to help kids proactively develop skills for healthy self-esteem, confidence, happiness, and so much more.
School counselors are also either becoming WISDOM Coaches or teaming up with WISDOM Coaches to support children beyond school hours.
Why School Counselor, Lisa, got certified to as a Child Life Coach
Lisa was looking for a curriculum to support the students at her elementary school and discovered a side business and career for her future retirement.
In this video, she shares why she chose to get certified as a life coach for kids and add child life coaching to her life coaching practice.
Sports Coaches, Music Teachers, Art Teachers, Volunteers, and Others who Work with Children
Extracurricular coaches and teachers understand that mindset is an important part of success. That’s why scout leaders, sports coaches, tutors, art teachers, martial arts instructors, volunteers, worship leaders, childcare providers, who are passionate about children and personal growth, will add child life coach training to their skill set.
Parents and Grandparents
Who are passionate about personal development. Many of our coaches have had such great results with the kids in their life, that the’ve become a certified child life coach to help other kids as well.
What does a Child Life Coaching Session Looks Like?
The Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching Program for Kids Curriculum and STORY Coaching process guides your work with children.
You can decide what format you use.
Our coaches:
- Work with children 1-on-1, either in-person or online. A typical 1-on-1 session is 60 minutes (see outline below)
- A typical workshop runs anywhere from 60-120 minutes.
- Some coaches present half-day or even full-day camps (especially during school vacation).
Be creative and have fun with it.
What might a 60-minute session might look like?
Our STORY Coaching process guides you step by step to help kids learn, understand and practice mindset skills.
Here’s how a typical session unfolds:
Connection (7-10 minutes)
- Centering Activity (Breathing/body)
- Icebreaker
- Check-in/Wise in Five
Coaching (30-40 minutes)
- Coaching Story
- Let’s Talk
- Activity
- Wyatt’s Wrap Up
Action (5-10 minutes)
- Parent Share
- WISDOM for Home
- Challenge
You start by sharing a coaching story!
Through the stories, children see the challenges that the characters face and how mindset skills are used to resolve the situation.
Children learn the skills alongside the characters!
For example, in the free coaching story we share, Choosing Your BFF (Best Friend Forever), Trudy the Tortoise is helped by Wyatt the Wise Wizard to understand how detrimental negative self-talk is to her self-esteem. She then learns how to shift that negative self-talk and to choose positive self-talk.
During your session, use the discussion questions in the “Let’s Talk” section to guide the child in exploring the story and discovering how the mindset skills can help them in their own lives.
It’s your engagement as a coach that creates “Ah ha!” moments for children
The activity we shared with you in the self-talk skill book is an art project – Creating a Self-talk Mirror and Mirror Mantras.
When you guide children through this activity, you are giving them a gift that will last a lifetime – that any time they see their reflection, to choose positive self-talk!
The STORY Coaching Process gives you a proven step-by-step process for creating engagement during your coaching sessions. See it here.
And watch a demonstration of the STORY Coaching Process in the video below:
Can I Life Coach Children Online?
Yes! WISDOM Coaches have been successfully coaching children online since 2013.
Coaching online enables coaches to work with children across time zones and expand their business to helping children around the world.
There are three keys to successfully coaching children online.
1. The first key to success when coaching children online is engagement!
Engagement and human interaction are critical when working with children online.
The reason is brain science.
Research shows that when children view content such as a video on a screen, their brain immediately switches into passive mode. As a result, they don’t learn as effectively because their brain doesn’t make the integrated connections required for deeper learning.
When coaching children online, it is critical that your sessions create opportunities for continuous engagement so that the child’s brain remains in active mode – facilitating deeper learning and opportunities for growth.
As a Certified WISDOM Coach®, you use the STORY Coaching Process to create engagement in every step of your coaching.
“I loved the whole concept behind the Adventures in Wisdom™ Program. Not only is telling stories a great way to make abstract feelings concrete, but also the teaching and concepts are similar to the ones we use with adults… As an adult life coach, I can tell you that this kids’ curriculum covers the whole development of the child….”
2. The second key to success when coaching children online is presence.
What is presence?
Presence is the energy, connection, and attention you bring to the coaching session.
Coaching is a human-to-human process and presence means creating an environment where you can be fully present with the child you are working with – cultivating an environment of trust and safety so that children can explore and grow.
The Adventures in Wisdom® Curriculum is designed to “do the work for you” by guiding children through the content so that you can focus on how the child is responding to the story and the skills they are learning.
As a life coach, you are deeply listening to what kids are saying and paying attention to body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice.
You listen for “coaching moments” and use the stories in your coaching!
For example, if you hear a child getting down on themselves, you can gently ask the question, “What might Positive Pam say about this?” This question takes the child back to the story Choosing Your BFF (Best Friend Forever) and reminds them that they have a choice in how they talk about themselves.
Story-based coaching is a powerful method for coaching children so that they don’t feel judged, and it opens the door for them to explore beyond their current thinking – to discover new awareness and new insights with your guidance as their coach.
Presence is possible when you have structure and a proven process that guides the flow of your coaching sessions.
“This [Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching for Kids] program is so much more advanced than the program I use to coach adults through. What you have created is POWERFUL. I need to make sure you know that! I am forever grateful because AIW is also going to transform my babies’ lives too.”
3. The third key to successfully coaching children is to use a proven process to manage the entire coaching experience.
Having a proven process before a coaching session will set your session up for success and having a process after a session will support the child in applying the skills they are learning between sessions.
With your WISDOM Coach child life coach certification, you use the STORY Coaching process when working with children – whether in person or online.
What to Look for in a Child Life Coach Certification Program
Child life coaching is different from parenting, it’s different from counseling, and it’s different from coaching adults!
To be an effective life coach for children, it is important to choose a program that has been developed specifically to work with children.
Here’s what to look for (details shared below):
• Proven curriculum designed specifically for children
• Easy-to-use coaching process
• Flexibility in how you life coach children
• Proven results for children
• Proven results for child life coaches
• Business support
• Marketing support
• Community
• Professional affiliation
Proven Curriculum Designed for Children
Coaching kids is different from coaching adults and the distinction is brain development.
Adults have much stronger critical thinking skills because the frontal lobes of their brains are fulling developed.
These critical thinking skills enable them to make distinctions and to draw conclusions more effectively. That is why life coaches for adults use questions as their main tool coaching tool when engaging with their clients.
A child’s brain is different. Their frontal lobes are not fully developed nor are their critical reasoning skills.
Children need a different approach.
Effectively life coaching children requires a teaching component to help them learn these powerful mindset skills.
That is why coaching stories are the foundation of the coaching curriculum you use as a Certified WISDOM Coach®.
Each skill is taught through a skill book. The skill book has both a Mentor’s Coaching Guide and a Children’s Guide.
The Mentor’s Coaching Guide has background information and coaching tips for you.
The Children’s Guide has the coaching story, child-friendly discuss questions, and activities to help kids learn, understand and practice the skill.
Through the stories, children learn from the situations that the characters are face, and see how mindset skills support them in being empowered in their lives.
By using child-friendly discussion questions and activities, you support children in applying these skills to their own lives.
It’s your guidance as a coach that helps turn information into transformation for children.
Coaching stories are not only a very effective approach to coaching children, they are also fun and engaging for children and for you!
The Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching Program for Kids curriculum is an engaging, easy-to-use, fun, step-by-step curriculum designed specifically for children!
Proven coaching process
Having a proven process for supporting children in your coaching sessions will help you get results with children.
Onboarding your clients
As a Certified WISDOM Coach®, the process begins with identifying which skills to help children develop first.
With our child-friendly intake form for children and intake form for parents, children and the parents can share their goals for the coaching process. Using their feedback, you can either use one of the existing coaching package templates (designed to achieve a specific outcome like self-esteem, self-confidence, resilience, etc), or customize a package that would best meet the child’s needs.
And if a new issue comes up during the coaching process, you can use the Adventures in Wisdom Coach Spot Coaching Document to identify which skill books to use to support the child with that challenge.
The Adventures in Wisdom Spot Coaching Document lists common challenges (like feeling shy, lying or cheating, etc) that children might face and indicates which skill books to use to address those situations.
STORY Coaching Process
The coaching stories and The STORY Coaching Process guide your session with a child, enabling you to focus on providing an emotionally safe space for children to apply the skills to their own lives.
The STORY Coaching Process is incredibly powerful in its simplicity.
This step-by-step journey – with a coaching tool for each step – guides your work with children. The process enables you to get results with children from the very first session.
S – Share Coaching Story
You start with the coaching story! Through the story, children see the impact of the problem that the characters face and how mindset skills are used to resolve the problem.
T – Talk About the Story
Use the questions in the “Let’s Talk” section to explore the story, and the skill being taught, with the children. Add your own questions as well! This is where ah-ha moments and transformation happen.
O – Organize Activity
Activities such as role playing and art projects give children an opportunity to further experience the skills they are learning. We provide activities in the skill books and you can add your own as well.
R – Review with Parent
Children love to share what they’ve learned with their parents. After sharing, give the family a WISDOM for Home sheet, so they can continue the conversation. This deepens learning between sessions and can transform families as well!
Y – Yes! Confirm Learning
At the start of each new session, use the Wise in Five review sheets to practice the skill learned in the previous session. Then continue the adventure with the next coaching story!
Flexibility in How You Work with Children
No two children are alike and as a result, it is critical that you use a program that doesn’t dictate how you work with children or force them into a strict curriculum.
As a certified WISDOM Coach®, the Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching Program for Kids Curriculum provides a foundation to guide your way.
As a child life coach, it is important to provide an emotionally safe space for children to explore their feelings and their thoughts.
Your listening skills and connection with the child will guide the pace of skill development. If a child needs to review a skill, bring that skill book into the session. If a skill that is not in your current plan is needed, bring it into the session as well. It is important that you adapt your coaching based on what children are needing.
Bring your skills and creativity into your coaching sessions as well..
We encourage child life coaches to bring their unique gifts, skills and passions to life coaching kids.
Some of our coaches integrate meditation, yoga, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping, and other modalities into their work with children.
Others include sport, drama, art and music.
We even have a coach who specializes in equestrian work!
With the WISDOM Coach Child Life Coach Certification Program, you can bring your creativity and experience into your coaching.
